The government must invest in workforce development and leadership if services for
children are to improve.
Local authorities also have a role to play, by identifying and developing champions for change
and future leaders. That was one of the messages of the Delivering the New Plan for Children: Building Brighter Futures for our Children and Young People event held last month by TJ sister
publication The House Magazine, examining the government’s Children’s Plan.
The Plan was prompted by the Laming report on social services in the London borough of Haringey, following the death of eight-year old Victoria Climbie in 2000.
