Enterprising Britain is a national competition run by Make Your Mark on behalf of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR). It highlights how communities, which can be anything from a parish to a town or even a neighbourhood, have transformed their social and economic fortunes through enterprise.
There are just weeks to go before the regional deadlines for entries, which range from 18 April in Scotland and the South East, to 9 May in the East Midlands, are up. Entrants are urged to get their applications in as soon as they can to be in with a chance of having their community crowned the most enterprising place in Britain.
Launching the competition, Shriti Vadera, Minister for Business and Competitiveness, BERR, said: "Enterprise, especially small businesses, start-ups and growing companies are the heart of the UK's economy. I support this grass-roots campaign, which identifies and celebrates the regions where enterprise has created jobs, brought communities together and made a real difference to local business and local people."
