The TUC has teamed up with ACAS to provide free training for supervisors and managers in London’s building services sector. Often, these people have risen through the ranks without the benefit of formal training and may not be aware of the legal responsibilities that go towards creating a fair and safe working environment.
The initiative, from the TUC’s Vulnerable Workers Project which works to improve conditions for those at the bottom of the employment ladder, is being funded by BERR in a pilot scheme to find ways of supporting vulnerable workers and stamp out any abuses that are found.
The aim of the training which is being designed in consultation with employers is to support supervisors and workers and improve relationships between them. Likely benefits of the scheme are improved performance, increased retention rates, a committed workforce and managers who have the skills need to deal with workplace issues promptly and fairly.
