In the autumn of 2008 David MacLeod and Nita Clarke were commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to conduct an in-depth review of employee engagement and to assess its impact on organisations and employees. The recession was hitting hard by the time the report was published in July 2009 and its resulting message was unequivocal - that good employee engagement is vital for organisational success and that it is even more crucial in the current economic climate.

As the UK competes with growing global competition our workforce is our strongest asset; for as the methods and factors of production, along with the goods and services on offer become more standardised across the globe it is clear that employee engagement 'is the difference that makes the difference' (Source: MacLeod Report).

Equally, as the public sector squares up to the realisation that they are facing an extended period of under-investment it is clear that service levels and morale are only going to be maintained through the commitment and motivation of its people.

The challenge now, say the report's authors, is to help people to 'get it' - that is understand the importance of engagement to their individual and organisational goals - and then 'do it'.

It's vital to help people to understand the principles and take first steps toward building an environment that promotes engagement - and this special one-day conference is a great place to start. The event will provide the opportunity to explore, experience and understand what engagement means in context and will provide some simple but powerful tools and techniques to improve organisational and personal well-being. Featuring interactive techniques from Steps, a leading provider of drama-based learning solutions, alongside peer-to-peer discussions and insightful guest speakers, the day promises to bring engagement to life.

This unique event is your opportunity to start putting your people at the heart of your business success.

The following confirmed speakers will be joining us:
David MacLeod and Nita Clarke, authors of the MacLeod Report
Emma Whittaker, Global Academy Head, HSBC Global Private Bank
